Vegan Poke Bowl

Poke Bowl

When I think of poke I think of weekends at the beach and potlucks with family. Growing up in Hawaii, you could order poke from your local grocery store. Often, there is a cold case, similar to a deli case of meat, that has different cubed fishes marinated in a variety of sauces. You choose your favorite and order it by the pound. More recently, the concept of a poke bowl has changed. Grabbing a poke bowl on the go has become much more customizable, which is an equally delicious option to the traditional marinated poke that I am used to in Hawaii. Finding good vegan substitutes for seafood, especially raw seafood, can be really tough. Because of this, I was really excited to give sashimi mimicking products a try!

GTFO It's Vegan

GTFO It's Vegan is an online grocery store for vegan foods. They have their own sashimi fish product, which is the one featured here, as well as other brands including Kuleana. Despite having a Whole Foods and a Sprouts close by, it can still be really hard to find all the new and awesome protein alternatives on the market in a brick and mortar store. GTFO It's Vegan has a bunch of options to choose from as well as an option to become a member. They do charge a fee for shipping as well as for their freezer bags, which can add a lot to a grocery haul but for the convenience, it is worth it.
